3 Best ways to learn Digital Marketing in 2023

You want to learn digital marketing and built a career in the field, but you don’t know where to begin. If this sounds like you, this article can be of help.

Digital marketing is a great skill to learn and with the strong demand in this field, there are surely perks to it.

Digital marketing can be learnt in multiple ways. Let’s take a look at the 3 best ways to master this skill in 2023.

1. Taking up a course with a reputed institute.

With the rising growth in digital marketing, many institutes have started offering digital marketing courses. These courses are usually bootcamps running anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months and many of these institutes offer virtual classes which you can attend from anywhere in the world.

And just like everything, there are pros and cons to it. Let’s take a look.

Pros:

Comprehensive courses

The best part of taking up a course with an institute is that they teach you about all the modules in digital marketing. The immediate advantage of such a course is that as a beginner, you get a broad idea of how digital marketing functions and in which stream would you like to specialize. Trying to become a jack of all trades in digital marketing is often difficult because you won’t have the time to cover everything. It is better to choose your niche and follow suit. Having said that, most courses have a project at the end of each module which you need to complete in order to advance to the next level. These assignments give you a glimpse of real-world dynamics and help you widen your horizon.

Mentors

Most institutes employ digital marketing experts from their respective fields to teach the lessons. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from their experiences and connect with them professionally. Real-life case studies are not only interesting but teach you a lot about how to overcome challenges. Marketing is all about connecting with your core audience and understanding audience sentiments across the world is a challenging job. Different languages and cultures make a marketer’s job that much more difficult: so being able to learn from these gurus can be very well your lightbulb moment.

Possible job opportunities

Some institutes provide job assistance in the form of campus placements or employer interactions. This is a great opportunity to land a job in Digital Marketing. There is a possibility that this job might be entry-level, but nevertheless, it’s a great opportunity to begin your career.

Shared ideas

Usually, Institutes run batches of anywhere between 20 and 30 and more often than not, the candidates come from diverse backgrounds from all over the world. When I enrolled on an institute, the youngest student was 20yrs old while the eldest was 57. This gives you a lot of perspectives and ideas. Also, you might find the right partner to grow an online business together. Honestly, there are endless possibilities that could click for you.

Webinars and industry insights

Webinars are a great way to learn and interact with industry experts. This will not only help you to understand the current trends in the industry, but you can also ask questions on the spot.

Not only does it increase your credibility, but also helps you get noticed.

Cons:

Expensive

The one and probably the only concern towards digital marketing boot camps is that they may get expensive. Surprisingly, the fees may vary depending on the institute, country and currency. A course from an institute in India will cost much less than in Canada. However, courses in India will mostly constitute stories from India which might not be much relevant for Canadian students unless your business was in India. Shopping around to find the best bang for your buck will surely pay off but make sure you factor in all the areas. Check out their Google reviews, and connect with the alumni on LinkedIn. Also, read the brochure and definitely check out the credibility of the instructors. This should give you a broad idea about the program and help you make the decision. Another point worth noting is that there are some reputed universities which offer digital marketing courses. While these courses are not part of their curriculum, it’s still relevant and worth taking a look at. They may, however, be pricier than independent institutes out there.

Reduced flexibility

Institutes run courses at a particular time of the day or week and they are not usually very flexible. If you miss the class, chances are that you either watch the recording or attend the same lecture with another batch. But this decision totally depends on the institute and you might want to check with them before enrolling.

2. Learning on the job.

Learning on the job is probably the best way to master any skill.  Back in the day, you needed to have degrees and certifications to even qualify for a job interview, but now companies are looking for people with creativity and passion. If you have marketing acumen and the capability to think outside the box, you can possibly start your career in a digital marketing agency. If they do not have positions open at the moment, check the possibility of an internship. Short exposure can also be of immense help to your career.

Keep honing your skills and learn as much as you can while on the job. There will also be many different situations and client issues you come across. Being able to understand and learn from them will grow your expertise.

3. Learning from Youtube or online courses

This is the easiest and most affordable way to learn digital marketing and all you need is a laptop and reliable internet. But you should be careful who you learn from. There are several fake gurus out there trying to teach you shady techniques and running get-rich-fast scams. Look for channels that have more than 200k followers and credible content. There are also some companies who operate their channels like Ahrefs and Google and put out quality content. Consider learning from them. At the same time, take notes and keep evolving your skill set.
