Digital Marketing has constantly been evolving and so have the titles that are associated with it.
In the early days, companies would hire Internet Marketers or telemarketers, however, in 2023, it somehow sounds outdated.
Even the word internet is hardly used nowadays, replaced by its fancy alternative – The Web. And, we’re already in its third iteration – web 3.0 and I believe this is just the beginning.
As discussed in my e-book A beginner’s guide to Digital Marketing, digital marketing can be branched into 6 core modules.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
- Social Media Marketing
- Email Marketing
- Inbound Marketing
- Web Analytics
Most of the digital marketing titles are centered around these modules. However, the list is not exhaustive. There are plenty of generic digital marketing titles that you will come across but in all probability, they will be connected to either one of the core modules. Here are the most commonly used digital marketing titles that you will see posted across job sites.

Technical SEO Specialist
A technical SEO specialist is someone who finds ways to optimize a website by creating sitemaps and enhancing page loading speed. SEO is a time taking and exhaustive process but it pays dividends if done right.
Web Analytics skills are required for this role as this will help to analyze the data and take corrective action. Generally, an email marketing manager delegates the task of writing and designing emails to the copywriting and graphic designing team, but in the absence of such teams, they might have to carry out the task themselves.
